Mosasaur Teeth Fossils For SaleMosasaur Fossil Teeth

Rocks, Minerals, and FossilsMosasaurs were a group of huge carnivorous aquatic reptiles that dominated the Late Cretaceous seas from 90 to 65 million years ago.  These four-flippered, long-tailed marine predators were the largest lizards that ever lived, some reaching over 50 feet in length, and are sometimes called the "T-Rex of the Seas."

Mosasaurs were powerful swimmers that came to the surface to breathe air, and were so well-adapted to the sea that they gave birth to live young instead of returning to shore to lay eggs.  They had double-hinged jaws like those of snakes, which allowed them to swallow their prey almost whole.  Their closest living relatives are land-dwelling monitor lizards like the Komodo dragon.

Mosasaurs went extinct during the same Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event which killed all of the dinosaurs.  The first scientifically described Mosasaur fossil specimen was excavated in the 1770s in the Meuse River region of the Netherlands, which is the source of its name, meaning "Meuse reptile."

The Mosasaur tooth fossils on this page are from Morocco, and are 65 - 70 million years old.
